First UNCITRAL Regional Workshop in Asia (23 to 24 November 2010)

The first UNCITRAL Regional Workshop in Asia ("the Workshop") will take place from 23 to 24 November 2010 at Korea University Law School in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The Workshop, which will take the form of an expanded expert group meeting, is expected to discuss various issues relevant to UNCITRAL, especially the role of UNCITRAL and its texts in the Asian region.

In its resolution 64/111 of December 2009, the United Nations General Assembly noted the request by the Commission to the Secretariat to explore the possibility of establishing a presence in regions or specific countries with a view to facilitating the provision of technical assistance with respect to the use and adoption of Commission texts. In accordance with that request, the Secretariat, in close cooperation with the Korea University Law School and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea, is convening the Workshop to obtain the views and draw on the expertise of experts from Governments, international organizations and the private sector. As it is an informal meeting, the panels will be conducted in English. Topics to be discussed include the role of UNCITRAL and significance of its texts in Asia, recent works by and future topics of UNCITRAL and their implications in Asia, technical assistance and strategies for implementation of UNCITRAL texts in Asia.
